Amazon Seller Profit Calculator: know your real margin before you list
Amazon’s fees come in layers, and that’s exactly where new sellers lose money. A referral fee here, a closing fee there, shipping, then 18% GST on top of all of it - and the “profit” you imagined shrinks fast. This calculator lays every deduction out clearly so your price is right before your first sale, not after your first settlement.
How to use this calculator
Enter your selling price, product cost and your category’s referral fee (from Seller Central - it varies roughly 5-18% by category). Then adjust the closing fee and shipping to match your model (Self Ship, Easy Ship or FBA), set your return rate and any ad spend, and switch on the GST toggle if you’re registered. Then enter your monthly quantity to see projected monthly profit.
Understanding Amazon’s fees
The referral fee is a percentage of your selling price and varies by category - roughly 5% for electronics up to 18% for apparel and jewellery. The closing fee is a fixed per-item charge based on price slab and model. Shipping depends on weight, zone and whether you use FBA. And 18% GST applies on all these fees. Miss any one and your margin maths is wrong.
A quick example
Say you sell a product for ₹799 that costs you ₹350, in a category with a 12% referral fee. The ₹449 gap looks like profit - but after referral fee, closing fee, shipping, GST on those fees, packaging and a realistic return rate, your true per-order profit is materially lower. The calculator shows the real number, and lets you test a higher price to see how much margin improves.
Numbers are the start. Turning them into a ranking Amazon listing - keywords, images, A+ content, PPC - is the next step. Our complete Meesho A-Z Course walks you through selling end to end if Meesho is where you are starting.
Amazon calculator - frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my profit as an Amazon seller in India?+
Your profit is your selling price minus every cost: product cost, Amazon’s referral (commission) fee, the closing fee, shipping, 18% GST on those fees, packaging, returns and any ad spend. If you’re GST registered you add back input tax credit. This calculator does all of it and shows your exact per-order and monthly profit.
How much commission does Amazon charge sellers?+
Amazon charges a referral fee that varies by category - typically between 5% and 18%. Electronics like mobiles are low (around 5%), while apparel, jewellery and watches are higher (15-18%). Enter your exact rate from Seller Central in the calculator - the referral fee field is fully editable.
What is the closing fee on Amazon?+
The closing fee is a fixed per-item charge Amazon applies on top of the referral fee, and it depends on your selling price slab and fulfilment model. Our calculator includes an editable closing-fee field so you can match your exact figure.
What is the difference between FBA and Easy Ship fees?+
With Easy Ship or Self Ship you handle storage and Amazon picks up and delivers; with FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon), Amazon stores, packs and ships your stock for additional fees (pick & pack, storage). This calculator covers referral, closing and shipping; FBA-specific storage and pick-pack fees should be added separately for an FBA-exact figure.
Is there GST on Amazon seller fees?+
Yes. Amazon adds 18% GST on its fees (referral, closing, shipping). If you’re GST registered you can claim this and the GST inside your product cost back as input tax credit; if not, it’s a straight cost. The calculator handles both via the GST toggle.
What is a good profit margin for Amazon sellers in India?+
Many healthy Amazon sellers target a net margin of roughly 20-40% after all fees. High-competition categories and heavy PPC spend pull it lower, so always calculate before listing rather than after.
How accurate is this Amazon calculator?+
The formulas are accurate. The output depends on your inputs - especially the referral fee for your exact sub-category, the closing fee, and shipping, which vary. For an exact figure use your real numbers from Seller Central and your settlement reports.
How many products do I need to sell to earn well on Amazon?+
It depends on your per-order profit. Use the monthly projection: enter a realistic monthly quantity and the calculator shows your monthly profit, so you can see how volume and pricing combine.
