GST Calculator for Online Sellers: add or remove GST in seconds
Every seller does this math daily: what does my ₹475 product become with 5% GST? How much GST is hiding inside a ₹1,180 invoice? This calculator does both directions instantly - and shows the CGST/SGST split for local sales or IGST for interstate, which is what marketplace sellers shipping across India actually deal with.
How to use it
Choose Add GST when you have a base price and need the final GST-inclusive amount (pricing a product, raising an invoice). Choose Remove GSTwhen you have an inclusive price and need the base and tax inside it (working backwards from an MRP, checking a supplier bill). Pick your product's GST slab, and tick interstate if the sale crosses state lines.
The two GST amounts every online seller must track
GST on your sales:charged at your product's rate on the selling price - this is what you collect and deposit. GST on your costs:the tax inside your stock purchases, packaging, and the 18% GST marketplaces add on their fees. If you're GST-registered, the second amount comes back to you as Input Tax Credit - you pay only the difference. That gap between registered and unregistered sellers is real money: run your numbers in our Meesho profit calculator with the GST-registered toggle on and off to see it.
Not registered yet?
Amazon and Flipkart require GST from day one; Meesho allows starting without it in many categories (see our guide on selling on Meesho without GST). When you're ready, registration is free on the government portal - or we'll do the whole thing for you: GST registration for online sellers at ₹999, application filed within 24 hours.
GST calculator - frequently asked questions
How do I calculate GST on a price?+
To ADD GST: multiply the base amount by the GST rate. For example, ₹1,000 at 18% GST = ₹180 GST, total ₹1,180. To REMOVE GST from an inclusive price: divide by (1 + rate). ₹1,180 inclusive at 18% = ₹1,000 base + ₹180 GST. This calculator does both instantly.
What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?+
For a sale within your own state, GST is split half-half: CGST (central) + SGST (state) - so 18% becomes 9% + 9%. For a sale to another state, the full amount is charged as IGST. The total tax is the same either way; only the split changes. Marketplace sellers shipping across India mostly deal with IGST.
What are the GST rates in India?+
The main slabs are 0.25%, 3%, 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%, depending on the product. Most clothing under ₹1,000 is 5%, many home products are 12-18%, and electronics accessories are typically 18%. Check your product’s HSN code for the exact rate.
How do I remove GST from an MRP or inclusive price?+
Divide the inclusive price by (1 + GST rate). Example: MRP ₹499 with 5% GST inside = ₹499 / 1.05 = ₹475.24 base, and ₹23.76 is the GST. Use the "Remove GST" mode above - this is exactly what it computes.
Do online sellers on Meesho, Amazon or Flipkart need to charge GST?+
If you are GST-registered, yes - GST applies on your sale value at your product’s rate, and the marketplaces also charge 18% GST on their own fees. If you sell on Meesho without GST (using an Enrolment ID), you cannot charge GST on invoices. Amazon and Flipkart require GST registration from the start.
What is Input Tax Credit (ITC) and how does it help sellers?+
ITC lets GST-registered sellers claim back the GST they paid on purchases - stock, packaging, shipping, marketplace fees - against the GST they collect on sales. You effectively pay only the difference. For sellers with real input costs this saves a meaningful amount every month; unregistered sellers absorb that GST as pure cost.
Is GST calculated on the selling price or cost price?+
GST you charge is on your SELLING price (what the buyer pays). GST you can claim back (ITC) is what you paid on your COST side. Your marketplace profit calculators should include both - our Meesho, Amazon and Flipkart calculators handle this with a GST-registered toggle.
How do I get GST registered as an online seller?+
Registration happens on the government GST portal with your PAN, Aadhaar, address proof and bank details, followed by biometric verification in most states. It is free on the portal; we also offer a done-for-you registration service for proprietorships at ₹999, filed within 24 hours.
